Maldives

.

The Maldives are one of those bucket list destinations that hardly need an explanation! Beautiful blue waters and isolated, tropical islands make this a perfect destination for anyone looking to getaway and relax in paradise. To get to this paradise, you will fly into Velana International Airport (MLE) on the island of Hulhule’. Upon arrival, you’ll most likely be escorted by a representative from your resort to the island where you are staying. You will have to take a ferry, a seaplane, a speedboat or some combination of the three to reach your final destination.

Best Times to Visit: The Maldives are hot and sunny all year round, but the best weather and the best time to visit the Maldives is between November – April. The high season falls between December – March, and monsoon runs from May to October, peaking in June.

Things to do:

Snorkeling and/or scuba diving. The Maldives is one of the premier scuba diving destinations in the world! It’s crystal clear water, warm ocean temperatures, and diverse marine life make it a perfect spot to spend the day diving and snorkeling. Whale sharks and mantra rays call the Maldives home almost year round!

Spend a day island hopping. Believe it or not, there is a large settlement in the Maldives and many locals live and work on the islands. If you stay at a private island in the Maldives, make sure to look into excursions to a nearby community. It is good to note, the Maldives follow strict a Muslim culture – be sure to dress respectably (i.e., long skirts/shorts and no spaghetti strap sleeves).

Take a scenic flight over the islands. The Maldives are known for its iconic beautiful blue waters and picture perfect beaches. Most resorts require a flight on a small plane to their private island, but if your resort does not look into an excursion to see these beautiful islands for yourself. Don’t forget your camera!

Relax! There is no better place in the world to hit pause on life and truly soak in this amazing destination! Pull up a beach chair, grab an exotic drink, and get in some serious “me” time.

Things to Know Before You Go…

.

  • The Maldives are made up of over 2,000 islands. Some are so small you would never even see them on a map, but the Maldives are expansive with something for everyone.

  • There is a glow in the dark beach. The presence of bioluminescent plankton around the area make the beaches come alive – literally – at night! This is a must see when visiting the area.

  • This is an Islamic population. When planning your trip, consider the traditional holidays and traditions – such as month-long holy fasting of Ramadan. However, when the resort islands you will not have to worry about the traditional attire or customs.
